Finish the job: referendum on Article 12 now — backed by 213,738 spoiled votes

213,738 citizens chose to spoil their vote — a clear, intentional demand for genuine choice on the presidential ballot.

Dublin, 31th October 2025

Ireland has made history. In the 2025 Irish presidential election on 24 October, people spoke louder than any candidate — and they did it with a spoiled vote.

A total of 213,738 citizens across the country went to the polls and made a conscious decision to reject the curated ballot offered to them, representing 12.9% of all votes cast.

“These spoiled votes sent a clear, intentional signal — not confusion but a choice,” said Elaine Mullally, one of the founding organisers of Spoil The Vote. “Open presidential nominations and put it to a referendum now. Finish the job on Article 12 and let the people decide.”

To everyone who took part — whether you just put “X” in the boxes or wrote your own message — you made history.

What happens next

We are only getting started. Spoil The Vote will now channel this momentum into a national campaign for a referendum to reform the presidential nomination rules under Article 12. The people must have the right to choose from a full, fair, and open field — not one filtered by party elites.

  • Join the movement: Sign up at www.spoilthevote.ie we want to hear your voice and get you involved.
  • Local action: Regional organising groups are forming in every county in the coming weeks.
  • Push for a referendum: We are mobilising communities and civic groups to demand immediate debate in the Oireachtas on Article 12 reform and to implement the cross‑party 1998 recommendation to add a citizen‑nomination route.
  • Keep the energy high: Talk, share, involve your family and friends and remind everyone: our spoiled vote was not confusion, it was conviction.

“Open the ballot and finish the job,” said Declan Ganley, one of the founding organisers of Spoil The Vote. “Adopt the 1998 all-party proposals – 10,000 citizen nominations and ten TDs and let the people vote on it.”

Message to Government

The people have spoken – not in whispers, but in a thunderous roar.
213,738 spoiled votes are not a mistake. They are a movement.

We reject political gatekeeping that denies real choice. We demand reform. We demand accountability. And we will not be silenced or sidelined.

Ireland’s democracy belongs to its people. The 2025 presidential election proved it.

  1. Great that we now know that the power of the people is the real power. This shitshow in government and a fake opposition needs gone. We need a clear out from top to bottom starting with a new party.
Everyone needs to really wake up this is about our futures and our kids future whats really goin on. Our so called government are baught and paid for by Europe. Europe runs ireland and thats the reality. Mass immigration fake wars global warming hoax its all part of the 2030 agenda. Wef and the sick elites trying to bring in Digital ID for mass surveillance on us. 15 minute cities and so on. They started it with a man made virus and went from there. 2020 until now a big push. They have 5 years left to complete that goal and yes thats whats happening b4 our eyes. We need to stop this madness. Look at the deaths from a killer Injections and injuries its very sad and evil.
Nobody held accountable because there all corrupt and baught. Our so called government has sold us out. Rte baught and paid and mainstream media also and all news papers all print from the same hynm sheet. This really needs to stop and stop them now. No Digital ID thats the main one because when they try to stop the cash thats total control we can only eat what they say travel were they want us and monitor who we communicate with. They can knock of everything with the click of a switch. People may laugh but its the truth and its strange times ahead. Why all these middle aged men coming here especially from country’s that are not at war. Why is there no women and kids. Is it because they are an army of the deep states worldwide I ask. Im not mad im asking a serious question whats the end goal for these men. Not working getting fed 3 times a day and hanging around drinking and ogling young women and children. Let’s call a spade a spade we dont know them there age there Real names dob and so on. But the state knows everything about us. After all were only a pps number here.
I look forward to us all combining all our knowledge and experience of this big con and control agenda to put a stop to it and hold them accountable because this is treason evil and unconstitutional what is goin on. Only recently the Fake Harris and Meehole Martin have said that the immigration is getting out of hand ah because we the people have spoke. There shook to the core and we need to get rid of them ASAP. So basically been hypocritical on what they say was far right commentary from the start. Well I say im night far right I’ve been right all along.

  3. Everyone will have a different view as to how the next Presidential Election will be held. I believe in order for it to be totally free and fair there could be options such as, pay an entry fee, maybe €1,000 and secure 5000 citizen signatures, no council or political nominations should be required, this only allows the elite to put forward their preferred candidates, the citizens of Ireland are the only people necessary to nominate and elect a President. I also believe the role of the President should become more active in overseeing the government and councils. Effectively an independent adjudicator. Governments are not working for the people and too many wrong decisions are made, and are made behind closed doors.

  4. We need a referendum on emigration or at least the money limit that can be spent on it regarding an those who enter for asylum in all the formats they enter my country .
The referendum would give our people a choice on the future of our kind in later years without being so shouted down with far right accusations.

  5. 💯 im backing this. This government is hell bent on destroying our country and giving it away to invaders.

    1. Now that a little shift has been generated at least in their rhetoric lets maybe see if a brief period of supportive encouragement whilst retaining a healthy level of skepticim, might work, to see what if any actions arise e.g. they could start by explaining breakdown of IPAS €250mm issued to Monaghan, what was that money used for, what is there to show for it?

  6. I am 100% in support of this movement. For me, the elephant in the room that needs to be addressed and correct is:

The right wing/centre right wing has not yet develop a unified single voice/representing (like the Reform Party in the UK). We need a really conservative party with strong leadership to representing us, the people that feel they have no political representation.

We also need conservative media (like GB News and Talk Radio in the UK) to represent us on the airwave in opposition to the current state controlled MSM. Gript media does a great job but we need it’s voice to be much more high profile.

Keep up the great work and you will have my support.

    1. Couldn’t agree more Garrett 🙂
For all who started this movement, thank you! ❤️
I finally have hope for Ireland 🇮🇪 and will support in whatever way I can. Hopefully those on the fence or those that were reluctant to spoil will now see the light.

  7. Yes count me in , I’ll try and not approach with cynical eyes, have lost total faith in the current systems, we need a coherent plan to change , we need to stop the MSM pumping out woke left propaganda with no honest debate . I ain’t a spring chicken anymore but will do what I can . 🙏

  8. Definitely want to be part of proactive movement but dealing with mass immigration must be a part of everything going forward.
    Time is running out ..

  9. Fantastic. Ireland is losing its identity rapidly. Yes I want to be informed and will continue to give my support.

  10. I feel it is very important to be kept in the loop. I am a carer for my husband and so my only opportunity to get a decent insight into what is REALLY happening is through all of you so Thank You. This cause is gaining momentum, as Irish people we are givers but we are not stupid!

  11. Yes, it was great. I am so glad we achieved so much and only, peoples time and €150. Thanks be to god we got there. Yes, I agree a referendum is required with good solid wording, to ensure we are never left with such a lack of choice in a presidental election ever again.

You also, have a very good base of people across the country that will step in and do what they can. Perhaps a barcode on a leaflet leading to a site to register a vote in favour of a referendum change, or perhaps an email on the leaflet or a mail in facility for those that are not computer savy.
